Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has called for unity within the club as he awaits a High Court ruling on the leadership dispute surrounding his tenure.
The Sports Registrar, Rose Wasike, recently directed the record FKF Premier League champions to conduct fresh elections, arguing that the veteran sports leader had already served the maximum two terms allowed under the Sports Act.
Rachier, a Senior Counsel, has challenged the directive in the High Court, where he successfully obtained interim orders from Justice David Mburu staying the implementation and enforcement of the Registrar’s decision.The matter is scheduled for mention on July 15.
The dispute stems from a letter dated 10 June, in which the Sports Registrar instructed Gor Mahia to replace officials who had served continuously since the club’s registration under the Sports Act in June 2018, maintaining that their eight-year tenure had come to an end.
While the Registrar acknowledged that Gor Mahia conducted its first elections under the current Sports Act in 2020, she maintained that the tenure of officials already in office at the time of the club’s registration in 2018 had already started running.
Rachier, however, argues that his tenure under the Sports Act officially commenced after the 2020 elections and therefore has not expired.

Speaking in a video shared on the club’s social media platforms, Rachier urged members to remain united and allow the court process to take its course.”Elections and issues surrounding the chairmanship need to be addressed, and it is important to allow the court to determine the concerns that some members have raised, including the issue of term limits and whether the chairman is eligible or was eligible in the last election,” he said.

The outcome of the case is expected to determine whether Gor Mahia will proceed with fresh elections as directed by the Sports Registrar or whether Rachier will remain eligible to continue serving as chairman.
