Even today, at 36, a player like Ciro Immobile would be a welcome addition to the Italy national team squad, especially given its current major crisis. However, as of yesterday, one of the most lethal strikers in Italian football history is officially retired.Ciro Immobile announces his retirement from professional football. 😢 Your journey was brilliant, thank you for everything. 🔥👏🏻 pic.twitter.com/FLhXgFM7ch— Pro_Foot HQ (@ProFoot_HQ) August 14, 2026 Despite being under contract with Paris FC for another year, Immobile could no longer cope with recurring injuries and decided it was time to bring his career to an end.And he leaves as a true legend.During his illustrious career, he played for a number of renowned clubs, including Juventus, Genoa, Torino, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Lazio, Besiktas, and Bologna, becoming one of the most prolific strikers in European football.##EDITORS_CHOICE##He was the capocannoniere (top scorer) of Serie A four times – once at Torino and three times at Lazio – and won the European Golden Shoe in the 2019/2020 season, scoring 36 goals. Only AC Milan's Swede Gunnar Nordahl, who played in the 1950s, with five, won this prestigious accolade more times than Immobile. His eight-year spell at Stadio Olimpico was the finest and most productive period of his career. He won three trophies with the Eagles (one Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana), and with 207 goals in 340 appearances, he is the club's all-time leading scorer and eighth in its all-time appearance rankings. At the same time, with 201 Serie A goals, Immobile is the eighth-highest scorer in Italian top-flight history, ahead of names such as Alessandro Del Piero, Gabriel Batistuta, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and others.🚨🇮🇹 Ciro Immobile has officially retired from professional football at the age of 36 🥹Italian legend. pic.twitter.com/J3km5Ogjqk— OneFootball (@OneFootball) August 14, 2026 With the Azzurri, he won the 2020 European Championship. He made 57 appearances for the national team and scored 17 goals. His goalscoring instinct, finishing ability and knack for troubling opposing defences are qualities that remain sorely lacking in Italian football.Sadly, we may have to wait a long time for another striker like him. Thank you, Ciro. It was a privilege to watch you.##NAJAVA_MECA_9894154##
