Gor Mahia extended their perfect start to the 2026-2027 FKF Premier League season after edging Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 in a fiercely contested encounter at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday, 28 October.
Former Homeboyz winger David Okoth scored the decisive goal in the second half, punishing his former employers to hand the record league champions their fourth consecutive victory and consolidate their position at the top of the standings.
Gor Mahia entered the match seeking to maintain their winning streak after collecting maximum points in their opening three fixtures. Homeboyz, meanwhile, were targeting a second victory of the campaign that would have reduced the gap between the two sides to two points. The visitors started brightly, with Musa Shariff testing Ibrahim Wanzala in the sixth minute after being picked out by Daniel Sakari. The goalkeeper reacted quickly to turn away the Harambee Stars forward’s effort.
Four minutes later, Alpha Onyango nearly broke the deadlock after combining with Ebenezer Ocran and Shariff, but Wanzala again intervened to deny the midfielder. Homeboyz responded through Ibrahim Joshua, who failed to connect cleanly with Collins Odhiambo’s delivery, before Glen Otunga sent an effort narrowly wide following a pass from Thomas Omolle. At the other end, Okoth threatened to haunt his former side in the 25th minute, beating his marker before unleashing a low shot that Charles Momanyi cleared.Gor continued to create opportunities, with Paul Okoth unable to beat Wanzala after a well-worked move involving Sakari and Bryton Onyona. Homeboyz also came close through Joshua, whose attempt was blocked by Frank Odhiambo after a promising attacking move.
The hosts finished the first half strongly, forcing Gor’s defence into several interventions. Onyango rose to meet Sakari’s delivery five minutes before the break, but Wanzala punched the ball clear. Enoch Machaka’s subsequent long-range effort sailed over the crossbar. Maurice Ojwang then headed straight at Humphrey Katasi from a Rodgers Ouma delivery, before Omolle narrowly missed the target in stoppage time as both teams went into the interval level. Gor resumed with renewed intent, and Machaka almost broke the deadlock two minutes after the restart when his attempted delivery struck the inside of the post before bouncing out of play.
Homeboyz remained dangerous, with Otunga forcing Katasi into a full-stretch save after connecting with Odhiambo’s pass. Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor responded with a triple substitution around the hour mark, introducing Ben Stanley, Ebenezer Assifuah and Jackson Dwang in search of a breakthrough. The changes injected fresh energy into the visitors’ attack, and Stanley came close shortly after entering the pitch when a delivery from Dwang fell kindly for him. However, his effort struck the side netting. Gor’s sustained pressure finally paid off in the 67th minute through Okoth.Stanley recovered possession and released Dwang, who advanced into the Homeboyz half before switching play to the left flank.
Okoth collected the ball, drove into the penalty area and unleashed a powerful left-footed strike that flew into the roof of the net, leaving Wanzala with no chance and silencing the home crowd. Homeboyz pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, with Clem Imbayi forcing Katasi to punch away a difficult bouncing effort for a corner.

Boniface Nyabuto also threatened after capitalising on a loose ball, but Frank Odhiambo recovered swiftly to make a crucial sliding tackle and deny the attacker a clear opportunity. Momanyi missed another chance to restore parity six minutes from time when he headed wide from a corner delivered by former Gor Mahia player Boniface Omondi. Despite the late pressure, Gor Mahia held firm to secure all three points and maintain their unbeaten defensive record in the encounter. The victory lifted Gor to 12 points from four matches, opening a seven-point gap at the summit as they continued their pursuit of a record-extending 23rd league title. Homeboyz, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season and remained on four points, although they still have a game in hand.
