South African clubs are reportedly circling Kenya international Ian Otieno, with his performances for Richards Bay in the South African Premiership attracting fresh transfer interest ahead of the upcoming window.
According to South African publication Soccer Laduma, the experienced shot-stopper has emerged as a serious target in the South African top flight, with several clubs monitoring his situation closely.##NAJAVA_MECA_9743881##Among the interested sides are Durban City FC, who are reportedly considering Otieno as a long-term successor to veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet, following his expected retirement at the end of the season.
Newly formed outfit Siwelele FC are also believed to be tracking the Kenya international as they plan for squad reinforcements ahead of the new campaign. Otieno, who currently features for Richards Bay FC, has been one of the standout performers in the South African Premiership this season, making 21 appearances, keeping eight clean sheets, and conceding 22 goals. His consistency has kept him firmly on the radar of rival clubs.

Since joining Richards Bay in 2024, the 32-year-old has established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, delivering composed and reliable displays between the posts. Before his move to South Africa, Otieno built his career in Kenyan football with Posta Rangers and AFC Leopards and also gained continental experience with Red Arrows and Zesco United.
Richards Bay are understood to be keen on keeping hold of their goalkeeper and may open talks over an extension, but growing interest from league rivals could test their resolve in the coming weeks, as reported by Soccer Laduma. Otieno is a full Kenya international and featured for the national team during the last FIFA window in March.
He started in goal for the Harambee Stars against Estonia in the FIFA Series tournament held in Rwanda, a match that ended in a 1–1 draw before Kenya suffered heartbreak in a penalty shootout.
