Government set to introduce term limits for Sports Registrar position

The Ministry of Sports is developing new terms for the person who will occupy the position of the Sports Registrar after Rose Wasike retired last month.Among the changes to be introduced is that the holder of the position will be employed on a fixed term contract.Download our Mozzart Sport App for more newsThe position will be advertised in the next month as the current holder, Chacha Marowa , who holds the position on acting capacity, does not qualify to hold the position by virtue of his current job group.The entry level for the Registrar of Sports is job group R while Marowa’s is at job group P.Surprisingly, however, another officer Nancy Seko who is job group ‘R’ was overlooked for the vacant position and has since returned to the Attorney General’s office where she had been seconded from.##NAJAVA_MECA_9961668##Under the civil service regulations, the holder of the position is two job groups below the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Sports.According to authoritative sources in the ministry, the new registrar will be employed on a contract basis according to the new regulations being developed.“The first registrar stayed in office for 15 years and that is not a good thing in as far as career progression is concerned.The new regulations once published will require that the registrar serves for a three year contract renewable once,” said the source.Kenya’s first Sports Registrar retires after 11 years of serviceThe source further added that the new registrar will be under pressure to ensure that the department raises enough revenue to complement what they receive from treasury.“Last year the department raised Ksh.5million mainly from registration of clubs and county associations.
