Kapchebar FC’s preparations for the fourth edition of the Governor wa Raia Cup received a significant boost after leading gaming firm Mozzart Bet visited the team with a bag full of sporting equipment.
The Evans Kipchumba-coached side is determined to make a stronger impression in this year’s tournament after their debut campaign ended at the Tambach Ward stage last year.
Organisers of the tournament, which seeks to unite the youth of Elgeyo Marakwet County through football, are expected to kick off the fourth edition either in late August or early September. With the countdown to the tournament underway, Kapchebar have set their sights on reaching at least the semi-finals of the countywide competition, which attracts teams from every corner of the expansive county, which is better known for producing renowned athletes.
Their ambitions received a timely lift after Mozzart Bet donated 23 full playing kits and two footballs under the company’s New Jerseys for New Champions initiative, which is aimed at supporting and empowering grassroots football clubs across the country. The year-old side believes the donation has provided the motivation needed to pursue its target of reaching the last four in only its second appearance at the tournament.
Speaking after trying on the new kits and getting a feel for the high-quality, FIFA-standard footballs, team captain Felix Kosgei expressed confidence in hitting their sky-high target in the competition.”We thank Mozzart Bet for sparing time and resources to visit us. It means a lot to the team as we prepare for our second appearance at the Governor was Raia Cup. The donation will go a long way in motivating us to fight all the way to the last four. Last year, our run ended at the ward level. However, this year we are determined to punch way above our weight,” said Kosgei.

Meanwhile, Kosgei, who also doubles as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, described the donation as a timely solution to one of the club’s biggest challenges. The shot-stopper revealed that the team had been making do with a single set of playing kits, which was insufficient to cater for the entire squad and meet the demands of the numerous invitational tournaments and friendly matches they participate in.”This is a huge relief for us because one of our biggest challenges has finally been addressed. We can now play without worrying about sharing kits, and that gives every player confidence as we prepare for the tournament,” added Kosgei.
