Kayole Starlets head coach George Kimani has laid bare the circumstances that led to his team suffering a 5-0 whitewash against military side Ulinzi Starlets.
The two teams clashed in an FKF Women’s Premier League (WPL) match played on Sunday, 18 October, at Police Sacco Stadium. After restricting Ulinzi to a goalless score for almost 70 minutes, the Soldiers needed just 20 minutes to score all five goals past Kayole and continue their perfect start to the season that has seen them collect 12 points from four matches.“Looks like we trained a lot and failed to balance it with recovery, and that is why, towards the 70th minute, our intensity went down while they increased and we conceded.
Additionally, when tired, players do not think well, which leads to individual errors, as in the goals we conceded,” Kimani told reporters after the match. Nonetheless, Kimani pledged to retreat to the training ground and make amends before match week three, even as he expounded on his limited attacking options and the overreliance on Magneta Ocharo.

“We will work on that (rest and recovery) before our next match. We will have to factor in quality rest time and recovery. We have had a problem in our attack line. We have been overusing Ocharo, who herself is not a centre forward. Once we subbed her off, our attacks deflated,” he added.##
On his part, Ulinzi Starlets tactician Collins Ochieng credited the win to perfect second-half substitutions, including the introduction of Harambee Starlets midfielder Mercy Airo, who grabbed a hat-trick.“ The bench is what won us the match, as has been our case all along. We had quality, fresh legs in the second half and maturity to put the game to rest,” said Ochieng.
