The opening round of this season's Premier League brought us a meeting between the reigning champions, Arsenal, and newly promoted Coventry. From the very start, Mikel Arteta's side dictated the tempo, scoring twice in the first half before adding another after the break, all without too much difficulty. Arsenal are certainly among the favourites to win the title, and their campaign has got off to an excellent start. The first chance arrived in the fifth minute when Tzolis drove forward down the left before cutting inside and trying his luck from distance, although his effort sailed over the Coventry goal.Just two minutes later, Arsenal threatened again. Greek continued to look lively and found Bukayo Saka, but the winger's effort was blocked by the Coventry defence.Christos Tzolis' first half by numbers vs. Coventry:33 touches 7 touches in opp. box 4 duels won 3 chances created 3x possession won 2 shots 2 fouls won 1 shot on target A very impressive opening 45 minutes. 👏#ARSCOV pic.twitter.com/GrfRQ1xysn— Squawka (@Squawka) August 21, 2026 Tzolis was proving to be one of Arsenal's most dangerous players in the opening stages, and he came close again after a cleverly worked corner routine. White received the ball on the return pass before finding one of Arsenal's latest signings, whose shot was almost certain to trouble the goalkeeper before a Coventry defender intervened and prevented the ball from finding the net.Arsenal's pressure finally paid off in the 15th minute when Havertz opened the scoring. Van Ewijk lost possession in a dangerous area, allowing the ball to reach Calafiori, who immediately picked out Havertz in the middle of the penalty area. The German made no mistake, calmly beating the Coventry goalkeeper to put the champions 1-0 ahead. The Gunners doubled their advantage just eight minutes later. Rice, Odegaard and Tzolis combined brilliantly in the build-up, with Arsenal continuing to find openings in the Coventry defence. The visitors' goalkeeper managed to get to cross and prevent it from reaching its intended target, but his parry fell straight to Saka, who made no mistake from close range and tapped the ball into an empty net.🇬🇷😮💨 THE FIRST PL GOAL INVOLVEMENT FOR TZOLIS…THIS GUY IS A DEMON. pic.twitter.com/f75EYJP7JR— Rising Stars XI (@RisingStarXI) August 21, 2026 Arsenal showed no signs of slowing down after making it 2-0, continuing to attack with intensity. Coventry did manage to become more compact following the second goal, leaving the hosts with less room to exploit, but Arsenal remained firmly in control. There was still time for one more opportunity before the interval. Another cleverly rehearsed corner routine created space for Rice to shoot, but the England international could not keep his effort on target as the ball went narrowly wide.Arsenal therefore headed into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 advantage after an impressive first-half display.##NAJAVA_MECA_9907065##Arsenal picked up where they left off after the break and wasted virtually no time in adding a third goal to their advantage.Just four minutes into the second half, Odegaard found the back of the net to make it 3-0. The Norwegian received the ball from White and tried his luck with a low effort. It was not the cleanest strike, but Coventry goalkeeper Rushworth failed to deal with it properly and could only watch as the ball eventually found its way into the net.⚽ ODEGAARD WITH THE THIRD GOAL FOR ARSENAL. pic.twitter.com/Jsr1EFsy1J— Low Res Replays (@LowResReplays) August 21, 2026 Arsenal continued to threaten moments later, with Lewis-Skelly testing Rushworth from around 20 yards in the 52nd minute. The Coventry goalkeeper redeemed himself with an excellent reaction, managing to tip the effort over the crossbar. The hosts came close again in the 65th minute. After a scramble and a deflection inside the Coventry penalty area, Tzolis found himself in position to shoot first time, but Rushworth was alert once more and made an important save to deny him.##EDITORS_CHOICE##As the half progressed, however, the intensity of the match gradually dropped. Arsenal were comfortably in control, while Coventry struggled to create anything meaningful in attack, resulting in a much quieter period with few chances at either end.The Gunners had another attempt in the 82nd minute when Gabriel tried his luck from long range, but his effort lacked accuracy and sailed over the Coventry goal. With little else to report in the closing stages, Arsenal comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to secure a convincing 3-0 victory and make a perfect start to their Premier League campaign.PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 1FridayArsenal – Coventry 3-0 (2-0)/Havertz 15, Saka 23, Odegaard 49/Saturday14.30: (8.50) Hull (4.80) Manchester United (1.43)17.00: (2.25) Everton (3.50) Crystal Palace (3.40)17.00: (2.80) Ipswich (3.25) Sunderland (2.60)17.00: (2.35) Nottingham Forest (3.45) Leeds (3.20)19.30: (2.50) Brentford (3.50) Tottenham (2.95)Sunday16.00: (2.30) Brighton (3.50) Aston Villa (3.25)16.00: (1.53) Manchester City (5.00) Bournemouth (6.00)18.30: (3.90) Newcastle (3.70) Liverpool (2.00)Monday22.00: (3.70) Fulham (3.80) Chelsea (2.00)***odds are subject to change***
