Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Edward Manoah believes his side has the quality to trouble Gor Mahia when the two teams meet at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.Manoah, who joined Homeboyz from Sofapaka ahead of the 2026/27 season, wants his players to remain disciplined, dominate midfield and take their chances against the defending champions.##NAJAVA_MECA_10062781##“We must stay focused from the first whistle to the last. Gor Mahia are champions, and they know how to punish mistakes. We cannot afford to lose concentration or give them room to play their game. Every player must understand his role and do his job,” said Manoah in an interview with the Star.Homeboyz have collected four points from their opening two matches, beating promoted Mombasa United 1-0 before drawing 1-1 with Ulinzi Stars.Manoah wants his team to build on that start by improving its ball retention and transitioning quickly from defence to attack, insisting they cannot afford to spend the entire match defending against the league leaders.“We have to be strong in midfield, win the second balls and move forward with purpose. When we win possession, we must know what to do with it. We cannot defend for the whole match and expect to win. We must also create chances and take them,” he said.Kenya Police set to hand coaching job to Frenchman after Muyoti’s dramatic exitThe coach is also counting on home support to help his side deliver a strong performance against a Gor Mahia team that has won all three of its opening matches.“We are at home, and we want to make this a difficult game for Gor Mahia. Our supporters expect us to fight for every ball, and that is exactly what we must do. We respect them, but we are not afraid of them,” he said.“We have prepared well, and the players know what is at stake. If we remain disciplined, play with confidence and take our chances, we can get the result we want,” he added.Homeboyz return to action after their scheduled match against Tusker FC was postponed due to the latter's CAF Confederation Cup assignment in Tanzania.AFC Leopards warn fans after 'unacceptable' behaviour during Shabana clashGor Mahia, meanwhile, head to Kakamega on the back of victories over Murang’a Seal, APS Bomet and Bandari FC.
