Lamine Yamal certainly has plenty to hope for either way ahead of the decision by France Football, although many are worried that the French magazine could “push” their favourite Kylian Mbappe, even though the voting is carried out by selected journalists from 100 countries. Mbappe has already said that he believes he deserves the most prestigious individual honour in football.
Yamal was initially hesitant, saying that it was up to others to decide. But in an interview with Spanish broadcaster Movistar+, he finally allowed his emotions to get the better of him. “I sincerely believe that there are two of us who are the best in the world, and this year I deserve it for what I’ve won. For me, Mbappe and I are the two best in the world. For me, it’s clear, and everyone who watches the matches knows it. My work with Barca and the national team has been incredible. I have a chance, I had a great year. But we’ll see. I don’t think I need to campaign. Everyone can think what they want. I’m proud of what I’ve done and I can’t ask for more. It’s your job, I won’t beg for anything” he said.

Despite having a great season for Barcelona and winning the World Cup, Yamal was realistic enough to admit he didn’t have such a great campaign in the USA.”After winning the World Cup, I wasn’t happy . I did a lot of things that people didn’t see. For a coach, it’s incredible to have a player who can take on three opponents, but I wasn’t happy for myself, because another player with my performance level would have had a great World Cup, but, for me, I couldn’t have done more. I did help the team, but I’m really looking forward to the next one” he concluded.
