Mombasa United president Abdulrahman Hussein has outlined the club’s ambitions ahead of the 2026-2027 season. The newly promoted side is preparing for life in the top flight amid an ongoing legal dispute over its elevation. Mombasa United secured promotion to the top tier after finishing third in the 2025-2026 National Super League (NSL). However, their promotion remains subject to a court dispute over the application of the 2025 promotion and relegation rules.

Despite the uncertainty, Hussein says the club is focused on building a strong foundation and preparing for the demands of top-flight football. Speaking in an interview published on the club’s official website, Hussein said he was proud of the progress made by Mombasa United since its formation.“The progress. We started with a vision of building a club that truly represents Mombasa, and every season we are moving closer to that vision.”

Hussein, popularly known as Anzafresh, described the current period as a new chapter for the club.“We respect the journey that has brought us here, but we are also creating a new chapter for the club, one built on stronger foundations, professionalism, ambition and a deeper connection with the people of Mombasa.”The president said representing Mombasa comes with significant responsibility, given the city’s football culture and talent.“When our players wear this badge, they are representing much more than a football club. They are representing a city, its people and its pride.”

With the club preparing for the 2026-2027 campaign, Hussein said Mombasa United’s immediate objective is to compete while giving the technical team and players the necessary platform to succeed. “We want to compete. We respect every opponent, but we also have our own ambitions.”He added that the club’s plans extend beyond what happens on the pitch, with efforts also being directed towards player development, facilities, commercial growth and supporter engagement.“

A strong football club cannot only be about 90 minutes on a Saturday. There has to be a strong structure behind the team.”Hussein said the club wants to establish a lasting connection with the people of Mombasa and develop an identity that supporters can embrace. “Ultimately, we want people in Mombasa to feel that this is their club.”

Looking five years ahead, the Mombasa United president said the ambition is to establish the club among the country’s leading professional football institutions. “We want Mombasa United competing at the highest level possible and operating as one of the most professional football clubs in the country.”He said long-term success would not be measured solely by league position, but also by the club’s ability to develop players, grow its supporter base, attract commercial partnerships and establish sustainable structures.“The bigger picture is building a football club that can represent Mombasa for generations.”As the legal dispute over the promotion continues, Hussein urged supporters to remain committed to the project.“Believe in what we are building. There will be challenges along the way, and there will be great moments, but we want our supporters with us throughout that journey.”
