It’s time for a new chapter in Ronald Araujo’s career. After beginning his career at Rentistas and Boston River in his homeland, the defender joined Barcelona in 2019 at 20 and hasn’t left since. At one point, he even became the team captain, but his mental struggles and a two-month break from football saw him slip down the pecking order.
Araujo’s confession: “I had anxiety for 18 months; I did not feel good” Upon his return, he was primarily used as Hansi Flick’s bench option, while a muscle injury ruled him out of the World Cup, where he didn’t feature, despite being included in the Uruguay squad. Therefore, it was time for a change, and it came in the form of a season-long loan to Liverpool, where he will be a valuable addition to Andoni Iraola’s back line, providing another centre-back, alongside Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet, and Giovanni Leoni.
Araujo’s arrival should help fill the void left by Ibrahima Konate’s move to Real Madrid and give the team greater depth in defence.
