Another major piece of business has been completed by Barcelona following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi at the beginning of the transfer window.A permanent deal with the Catalan giants will soon be signed by Joao Cancelo as well. He cannot exactly be considered a newcomer, as this will be his third spell at Barcelona. He spent the 2023/24 season on loan from Manchester City, while he also played for the Blaugrana during the second half of last season on loan from Al Hilal. After two loan spells, Cancelo will finally become a permanent Barcelona player.π¨ ππππππππ: ππππ πππππππ ππππππ ππ πππππ & πππππ πππππππππ ππ π π πππ πππππ π΅π΄JoΓ£o Cancelo had one year left on his contract at Al Hilal, but the club have now parted ways with him, meaning he will join Barcelona as aβ¦ pic.twitter.com/7UnUO0zWgcβ 433 (@433) August 16, 2026 This is particularly good business for BarΓ§a because Cancelo will arrive for free after managing to negotiate the termination of his contract with the Saudi club. His deal was due to run until next summer and would have guaranteed him β¬15 million over the next 12 months.Al Hilal were not particularly keen on keeping him after he fell out with manager Simone Inzaghi last summer, which resulted in him being removed from the squad before eventually being sent on loan to Barcelona in January. However, the Saudis had hoped to recover at least part of their investment. They demanded a fee of between β¬10 million and β¬15 million and even offered a swap deal involving Cancelo and Marc Casado, but the Portuguese defender managed to negotiate a clean release.##EDITORS_CHOICE##That decision will probably cost him financially, as it is unlikely that Al Hilal will pay the remaining year of his contract, but at least he will become a permanent Barcelona player. Admittedly, on a significantly lower salaryβ¦Cancelo was a regular starter under Hansi Flick during the second half of last season, operating at left-back β a position he had also covered at Manchester City despite naturally being a right-sided defender. He adapted very quickly, and the new season should be even easier for him because, alongside Raphinha, Anthony Gordon has arrived on the left wing. Gordon places a strong emphasis on defensive discipline, which should give the Portuguese full-back greater freedom to make attacking runs.Barcelona have SIGNED JoΓ£o Cancelo THREE times.Total cost: β¬π π pic.twitter.com/ragibKrb4hβ BarΓ§aTimes (@BarcaTimes) August 16, 2026 And if Rodri arrives as well, that would provide even more defensive balance and allow the full-backs to push further forwardβ¦Al Hilal have at least managed to get rid of one of their surplus foreign players. They will soon send Darwin NΓΊΓ±ez to Trabzon as well, while the plan is to free up another foreign-player spot by loaning out Brazilian Malcom and using that slot to bring in a major new signing.##NAJAVA_MECA_9895115##
