FEASSSA: St Joseph’s Girls Kitale eye historic FEASSSA three-peat as title defence reaches semi-finals

St Joseph’s Girls Kitale are two matches away from completing a remarkable FEASSSA girls’ hockey three-peat, and head coach John Lusaka insists the defending champions have only one objective left in Morogoro, to retain their regional crown. The Kenyan champions secured their place in the semi-finals in emphatic fashion today cruising to a 6-0 victory over Uganda’s St Mary’s College to complete their journey through the knockout stages without conceding.Download Our MozzartSport App For more NewsThe result keeps alive St Joseph’s pursuit of a third consecutive FEASSSA title after their triumphs in Mbale, Uganda, in 2024 and Kakamega, Kenya, in 2025.“We’re confident we’ll retain the title. We are heading into the semis and we have one mission, to win the third consecutive FEASSSA title,” said Lusaka.##NAJAVA_MECA_9900416##St Joseph’s wasted little time asserting their authority against St Mary’s, with Eunice Kigaro opening the scoring in the sixth minute.Audrie Okwach doubled the advantage in the 21st minute before Valary Imsa added a third in the 34th minute.Okwach struck again five minutes into the second half to make it 4-0, with Christine Omondi scoring in the 58th minute before Shanel Osio completed the rout in the 59th minute.FEASSSA: Green Commandos star reveals how indiscipline nearly ended his football careerThe emphatic victory capped a strong campaign for the defending champions and sent them into the last four with considerable momentum.Their semi-final opponent will be Kakungulu Memorial of Uganda, who were edged 1-0 by fellow Kenyan side Nyamira Girls in another preliminary encounter.Lusaka, however, is not underestimating Kakungulu.“We know Kakungulu isn’t easy. We’ve seen them play and we know what to do,” he said. The other semi-final will be an all-Nyanza affair, with Nyamira Girls facing Ng’iya Girls in a repeat of the Nyanza Region final.Ng’iya secured their place in the last four with a 2-0 victory over hosts Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa, while Nyamira’s 1-0 win over Kakungulu completed their progression as the groud leaders. The semi-final therefore brings back memories of the domestic battle between the two sides, adding another layer to an already intriguing contest.Nyamira arrive in the semi-finals having also impressed earlier in the competition. Head coach Dennis Kigai has repeatedly emphasised the team’s ambition to reclaim the regional title they won in 2023, and eliminating Kakungulu has now brought them within one match of the final. The other quarter-final between Arusha Meru and Gayaza ended 1-1.FEASSSA 2026: Ng’iya Girls’ goal machine opens up on how hockey talent earned her scholarshipIn the boys’ competition, St Anthony’s Boys Kitale continued their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Uganda’s Ntare School.Uganda’s Kakungulu Memorial also booked a spot in the semifinals after beating hosts Arusha Meru 2-0, while Benjamin Mkapa defeated Mbarara High School 1-0.For St Joseph’s Girls, however, the focus is firmly on history. The Kitale side have already established themselves as the dominant force in East African girls’ hockey over the past two editions. Another championship would make them three-time consecutive winners and further strengthen their position as one of the region’s most successful school teams.Lusaka also sees the possibility of completing a domestic-regional double as an additional source of motivation.“The journey hasn’t been easy, but we will manage it. We’ll get the double this year, a national title and an East African title,” he said.St Joseph’s won the 2026 KSSSA girls’ hockey national title before travelling to Morogoro to defend their FEASSSA crown. Now, with the national trophy already secured and the regional title within touching distance, the champions have an opportunity to end their season with both major trophies. But the remaining road will demand more than reputation.Kakungulu stand between St Joseph’s and another FEASSSA final, while Nyamira and Ng’iya prepare for a fiercely competitive all-Kenyan semi-final on the other side of the draw.
