“I was terrified”: Sir Alex opens up about brain haemorrhage

It was May 2018 when the footballing world was in shock. Sir Alex Ferguson was rushed to the hospital after suffering a severe brain haemorrhage that required emergency surgery. At that time, nobody knew that he had only 20% chance of surviving. What is even worse, he was among five people that day who suffered a brain haemorrhage and only two of them survived. And now, the former Manchester United manager has decided to speak about it, mainly because he was promoting his new book “Games of My Life” which is out in October.Vieira reveals secret meeting with FergusonAfter the operation, he managed to recover completely, which was also a miracle, but at the beginning, it was tough.“I was terrified. I had lost my voice, I couldn't speak. That was a frightening moment. I remember my grandsons coming to see me and I had lost my voice. Then they brought in a therapist and she started doing things like asking me to write down the names of birds, names of animals, names of rivers. That way my voice came back” he revealed for BBC Breakfast. The next big chapter in his life was coming back to Old Trafford to watch his former club. It’s been five months since the operation and he was a bit nervous. But the whole stadium honored their beloved manager.“My wife was with me, and she was nearly crying. When we sat down, she said: "That's fantastic" revealed Ferguson. The Scotsman also revealed how he nearly quit football altogether and moved to Canada when he was still a player at St. Johnstone."I wasn't enjoying it. I wasn't playing first-team football; I was in the reserves all the time. I filled out all the forms and phoned my aunt in Canada, because you needed a sponsor then, and never told my mother and father" he remembered. Luckily for everybody, due to a massive flu bug, he was promoted to the first team and scored a hat-trick.The Mourinho bombshell: "I signed to go to Manchester United after Sir Alex"When Ferguson became the manager, his biggest decision was to include the young lads from the U21 team, even though he was advised otherwise. But Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and David Beckham proved to be real stars."We'd worked really hard getting youth into the club again and this bunch of young lads became the spirit of Manchester United. They added something. Apart from the great abilities they had, they had desire. I put Beckham out on loan at Preston in March 1995 and he thought I was trying to get rid of him, which was not true. David was the last to really develop because of his physique. Although he grew to 6ft, he was small and thin as a young kid. I did exactly the same when I was in charge at St Mirren and Aberdeen. I had belief in young people because if you give them an opportunity there are two things that happen – they become real stars and they can remain loyal to you as a manager" said Ferguson.UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE – DIVISION AFriday21.45: (1.53) Belgium (4.30) Turkey (6.00)21.45: (1.45) France (4.50) Italy (7.00)***odds are subject to change***—————————————————————UEFA – NATIONS LEAGUE BFriday21.45: (2.95) B&H (3.45) Sweden (2.35)21.45: (2.15) Hungary (3.35) Georgia (3.45)21.45: (1.58) Poland (4.00) Romania (5.90)21.45: (1.90) Ukraine (3.40) N.Ireland (4.30)***odds are subject to change***——————————————————————UEFA – NATIONS LEAGUE CFriday17.00: (1.70) Kazakhstan (3.45) Moldova (4.90)19.00: (2.30) Cyprus (3.25) Armenia (2.95)19.00: (4.10) Latvia (3.35) Montenegro (1.85)21.45: (6.00) Faroe I.
