Skipping the friendly matches against Monaco and Como was a sign of things to come. It was clear that Inter were stepping up their efforts and that Liverpool were getting closer to agreeing a deal.
The green light finally came last night! The English giants have agreed to sell Curtis Jones to Inter!
The Italian champions first made their move for the midfielder, who has spent his entire career with the Reds, back in early June. At the time, Liverpool were demanding €40 million, while Inter’s €25 million offer was swiftly rejected.
However, it was always known that the Nerazzurri had not given up, and they have now finally convinced the Anfield giants, with the deal worth €30 million guaranteed plus €5 million in potential bonuses. Liverpool have also secured a 10 percent sell-on clause.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the documentation has already been exchanged and signed. Jones’ trip to Milan still needs to be scheduled, while his medical will be the final hurdle before he can officially join the Nerazzurri on a five-year contract worth a net salary of €3.5 million per season.
This will further continue Inter’s British influx, with John Stones arriving this summer as a free agent from Manchester City and Djed Spence joining from Tottenham for €30 million. The Milan club have already spent €71 million on reinforcements this summer, and Jones’ arrival will take their spending beyond the €100 million mark.
Inter have not spent that much in a single transfer window since 2020, when they signed Hakimi, Barella, Stefano Sensi and Andrea Pinamonti.
Jones leaves Liverpool after seven, or more accurately six full seasons with the first team, having made 228 appearances in total. He scored 22 goals and provided 25 assists for the Reds.
