The twilight years of a player's career are considered a special gift in today's modern football, when technical quality often falls into the shadows, because they so often provide the detail that makes the crucial difference on the pitch. Nemanja Matic showcased his footballing class against Juventus in Reggio Emilia. The former Manchester United and Chelsea player was the dominant force in the midfield battle and provided the assist for the finest move of the match, which proved to be the beginning of Juventus' collapse at the Mapei Stadium. The Old Lady were twice brought back to life by Edon Zhegrova, but in the end they were put to the sword by Vasilije Adzić, the player the Turin giants have loaned to Sassuolo for the season — 3:2 (0:0).Just how confidently the Serbian midfielder played was evident in everything that led up to Sebastiano Esposito's goal in the 65th minute. Matic approached captain Berardi, and around 40 metres from the opposition goal they exchanged four simple passes before Matic surged forward. He played the ball with the outside of his boot to Kristian Thorstvedt, before then sliding a pass into the path of Esposito, who had no trouble beating Vladimiro Falcone. That move marked the beginning of perhaps the best half of football we have seen in Serie A so far this season. Zhegrova cancelled out the hosts' lead for the first time in the 82nd minute after a gift from Muric. Seven minutes later, Kieron Bowie restored Sassuolo's advantage, but Zhegrova had an answer to that as well, equalising again in the second minute of stoppage time. However, in the fourth minute of added time, Luciano Spalletti's team exposed all of their problems. They completely fell apart in the opposition counter-attack, leaving just two players inside their own penalty area while the rest failed to track back, making it extremely easy for Vasilije Adzic to calmly finish and set the final score. The Montenegrin forward did not celebrate the goal, given that he is still under contract with the Bianconeri, but his teammates and the home crowd in Reggio Emilia certainly did.Nothing that happened in the first half suggested that the second would unfold like this. There was plenty of intensity, but no goals. Both teams had their bright moments, but neither were clinical enough. The Old Lady started the match at a furious pace and hit the crossbar through Nico Gonzalez as early as the second minute, but Luciano Spalletti's side gradually spoiled their impression with an astonishing number of mistakes, the biggest of which came from Teun Koopmeiners, who, completely unmarked from 11 metres, fired straight at goalkeeper Muric. Sassuolo responded with extremely brave and well-organised football. The lively Esposito and Duyg created several dangerous situations in front of the visitors' goal, while Berardi forced Falcone to remain alert on several occasions. The teams went into the break goalless, but with the clear impression that the hosts had matched the Turin giants perfectly, despite Juventus lacking any real cutting edge. In the second half, they not only remained their equals but also showed that they were capable of claiming a major victory. The second half turned into a genuine football thriller and complete madness in the closing stages, from which Sassuolo emerged victorious in spectacular fashion. After an early exchange of dangerous blows involving Alajbegovic and Berardi, the hosts took the lead in the 65th minute when Seba Esposito converted Matic's genius pass. The real spectacle came during the final 10 minutes. Edon Zhegrova punished a poor reaction from Muric in the 82nd minute to make it 1:1, before a substitute restored Sassuolo's lead in the 89th. Bakwa beat Bremer and set up Bowie for 2:1. But even then, the drama was not over, as Zhegrova played a brilliant one-two with Randal Kolo Muani in the first minute of stoppage time to level the score once again. Yet while Juventus threw everything forward in the final seconds in search of a complete turnaround, Sassuolo launched a counter-attack in the 90+4th minute. Louriente picked out Adzić, who had all the time in the world to beat Falcone and spark unbelievable celebrations for Alberto Aquilani's side in a match that will be talked about for a long time.SERIE A – MATCHDAY 4FridayVenezia – Fiorentina 2-4 (1-2)/Adams 22, Hainaut 86 – Mastantuono 29,30,84, Pellegrino 66/SaturdayGenoa – Frosinone 1-1 (0-1)/Vasquez 50 – Kvernadze 14/Lazio – Milan 2-2 (2-0)/Cancellieri 10, Noslin 39 – Moreira 65, 67/Atalanta – Cagliari 1-2 (1-1)/Scamacca 41 – Mendy 19, Maldini 61 pen/SundayLecce – Monza 3-2 (3-1)/Coulibaly 3, 21, Gabriel 10 – Mangas 20, Zeballos 89/Napoli – Bologna 1-0 (0-0)/Lobotka 66/Sassuolo – Juventus 3-2 (0-0)/Esposito 65, Bowie 89, Adzic 90+4 – Zhegrova 82, 90+1/Monday19.30: (1.22) Como (6.25) Parma (14.0)19.30: (6.25) Torino (4.10) Roma (1.55)21.45: (1.22) Inter (6.50) Udinese (12.0)***odds are subject to change***
