Kabras RFC youngster Rayvon Ambale has opened up about the emotional six-month journey back from injury after making a sensational return at the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru over the weekend.Ambale suffered a fibula fracture during a Kenya Sevens training session on Sunday, 4 January, forcing him to spend months on the sidelines as he watched his teammates compete. I have been out for six months and coming out here at the Prinsloo 7s means a lot to me. I would really love to thank the Kabras and Kenya Sevens physios for the help and Healthy In for the supplements. I am grateful for every support I received," he said.NYS coach reveals demanding schedule behind impressive Prinsloo 7s runWhile the physical recovery was demanding, Ambale revealed that the mental challenge of watching from the sidelines proved even more difficult."The most challenging bit about my recovery journey was staying on the sidelines and watching the team play, and I could not get the opportunity to play. That was painful,” he recalled.His return, however, could hardly have gone any better. Not only did he help Kabras reach the final, but his attacking exploits also earned him the tournament's top-scorer accolade.Ambale credited the close bond he shares with his teammates for inspiring his performances."What has inspired my impressive performance so far is playing against my teammates. We have grown together; the likes of Siketi, Lukusi and Roy- we have played alongside each other for a long time, and that is my main inspiration. We are gelling well," he explained.Before his injury setback, Ambale's last competitive appearance came at the 2025 Zambezi 7s, where he represented Kenya Morans. He helped the national developmental side secure victory after defeating hosts Zimbabwe in the final.Ambale's rise to prominence began during his school days at Butula High School, where he starred in one of the most memorable underdog campaigns in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) rugby 7s.Under coach Shimenga Libondo, Butula reached the final of the 2022 KSSSA tournament before falling 31-0 to powerhouse Koyonzo High School.
