Real was too strong, but Genoa is no match for Roma

On Wednesday night, Roma had a 3-1 lead until the 83rd minute but a 10 minute barrage from Real Madrid prevented the Giallorossi from defeating the European giants. Roma were undone by two 'exes', as former boss Jose Mourinho watched ex-Roma defender Antonio Rudiger score the deciding goal in a frantic finale at Stadio Olimpico. Tonight it was a similar situation: Roma’s legend Daniele De Rossi was on the Genoa bench, while Stephan El Shaarawy was on the pitch facing his former team. But relegation-battling guests are far from Real. The former Roma pair couldn’t produce a single goal in Rome, yet they managed a win, as they were defeated 2-0 in a poor game. It was actually El Shaarawy who had the biggest chance for the visitors in the 33rd minute, but he hit the post. Coach Gasperini found a way to secure a win without fielding his strongest 11 and kept up with leading Inter in a battle for Serie A champion.Unlike the Champions League game with Real, the first half against Genoa was poor. Two chances overall but plenty of tactical battles, man-marking and high pressing which provoked yawning at the stands. The game was very stalled, with numerous rebounds and interrupted play due to errors in the build-up phase. The only two chances worth mentioning happened in the space of three minutes, as both teams hit the crossbar. Balerdi's effort in the 30th minute was completely lost by the Genoa defense at the near post, but luckily for them, there was no goal. Genoa also had a great chance three minutes later following a move by Osmajic, who tried to capitalize on N'Dicka's indecision. The ball bounced to the edge of the box, and El Shaarawy hit the crossbar. The second half finally brought some goals. It was a corner kick in the 50th minute and Castro made a daring move and produced a technically brilliant chip into the far corner, past the motionless Bijlow. Soule was responsible for the second goal, which sealed the win for the hosts. The Argentinian made a spectacular solo run, raced down the right, cut inside, took the entire defense away, interacted with Pellegrini, and then found a sloppy cross-shot that Lulli pounced on at the far post and scored his first Serie A goal. Genoa hardly managed to do anything, even scoring a goal, and this poor-quality game ended 2-0.SERIE A – MATCHDAY 7FridayFrosinone – Sassuolo 4-2 (3-2)/Calo 9, Raimondo 26,30,57 – Berardi 15, Thorstved 37/SaturdayVenezia – Napoli 1-0 (0-0)/Adams 49/Bologna – Inter 1-3 (1-1)/Pobega 10 – Thuram 44, Augusto 69, Bonny 83/Roma – Genoa 2-0 (0-0)/Castro 50, Lulli 68/Sunday13.30: (1.87) Udinese (3.50) Lecce (4.20) 16.00: (3.40) Fiorentina (3.50) Como (2.10) 19.00: (1.82) Milan (3.60) Atalanta (4.40) 21.45: (1.75) Juventus (3.60) Lazio (4.90) Monday19.30: (2.45) Monza (3.30) Cagliari (2.95) 21.45: (3.00) Parma (3.15) Torino (2.50)***odds are subject to change***
