Roma dreaming big this season

A happy and satisfied Gian Piero Gasperini at the end of August is either breaking news or the exception that proves the rule. The Roma coach made no secret of his satisfaction with the signings that have arrived, but in order not to completely dismantle the image he has built over decades, he had to point out that two more reinforcements are still needed — and then everything will be in place. Respecting the unwritten rule that the word “Scudetto” should never actually be uttered, Gasperini came up with the creative formula: “We can achieve something even greater than third place. We are still missing one more striker, but the winning mentality is already there”. Roma have lost just once in their last 20 matches at the Via del Mare, and that defeat came 14 and a half years ago. In Lecce, the Romans have recorded 11 wins and eight draws in addition to that defeat. Roma have had the better of their hosts in each of their last four visits to Puglia and, remarkably, have not conceded a goal in any of those four encounters. Lecce coach Eusebio Di Francesco, buoyed by the opening-day victory in Venice, is preparing several surprises, including a switch in formation from 4-2-3-1 to 3-5-2.I convocati giallorossi per Lecce-Roma 🐺Leggi la lista ⤵️https://t.co/bNLEWHkOJ4#ASRoma pic.twitter.com/b3gmpN4J32— AS Roma (@OfficialASRoma) August 30, 2026 The Romans are bursting with optimism ahead of tonight's game, and they have good reason to be. Dybala and Malen are already in form, as they demonstrated against Fiorentina, while the midfield and defense have already begun to click. Gasperini is expected to make just one, or at most two, changes to the lineup that faced Fiorentina at the Olimpico. Molina has recovered from injury, but it is not certain that he will reclaim his starting spot from youngster Lulli, who justified the coach's faith in him against the Viola last Monday. The other major question mark concerns the attack. Dybala and Malen are certain starters, while Mora, Soule and Pisilli are competing for the third spot in the attacking trio. All three have arguments in their favor as far as Gasperini is concerned, leaving the Roma coach with a pleasant dilemma.Dybala – Malen: A winning combination for RomaTwo new signings, De Roon and Balerdi, as well as Castro and Koulikerakis, are also expected to start the game on Roma's bench. Lecce have a fully fit squad at their disposal, while Roma have travelled without Pellegrini and Rensch. The good news for the Giallorossi is that both should be fit for the next league game against Atalanta, as well as their Champions League opener against Fenerbahce.SERIE A – MATCHDAY 2FridayMilan – Venezia 2-0 (0-0)/Ramos 69, Halhal 89 og/SaturdayFiorentina – Frosinone 0-3 (0-2)/Raimondo 26, 68, Bracaglia 38/Monza – Udinese 2-3 (1-3)/Colpani 37, Varela 63 – Piotrowski 32, Kamara 45, Ekkelenkamp 45+3/Sassuolo – Torino 2-1 (1-1)/Volpato 32, Berardi 78 – Comuzzo 45+2/Juventus – Parma 2-0 (0-0)/Gonzalez 63, Koopmeiners 88/SundayNapoli – Como 1-2 (1-2)/Hojlund 30 – Baturina 17, Douvikas 34/Cagliari – Inter 0-1 (0-1)/Calhanoglu 9/Lazio – Genoa 1-0 (1-0)/Frattesi 25/Monday19.30: (7.00) Lecce (3.90) Roma (1.53)21.45: (1.95) Atalanta (3.50) Bologna (3.90)***odds are subject to change***
