Unlike Harambee Stars, who are co-hosts of the AFCON 2027 and have already qualified, South Africa need to win and secure the first place in group D. The reason? As Kenya is also in the this group, there is only one available space left and today Bafana Bafana took another strong step in order to be that team. After defeating their biggest rival Guinea on Saturday, South Africa did what Harambee Stars couldn’t – they defeated Eritrea 5-0. Kenya had a great opportunity to defeat the Red Sea Camels after 23 years, but instead had to fight for a draw, which came three minutes from time courtesy of Ryan Ogam. South Africa didn’t allow any hope to their opponent and resolved the game after only 45 minutes, when they scored two out of their five goals.##TWITTER_

🚨🌍 | GOAL: RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG WITH A BRACE!

WHAT A SENSATIONAL GOLAZO! First sign of the upcoming goal came in the 12th minute when Mofokeng hit the left post from outside the box. Seven minutes later it was 1-0 and it was Relebohile Mofokeng, who fired a low, right-footed shot from the center of the box—assisted by Oswin Appollis—and found the bottom corner by the left post. Eritrea had two shots near the post as the answer to South Africa’s goal, but soon things were moving again in Bafana Bafana’s favor. And just as the referee was about to signal the end of the half, the visitors scored again. Mofokeng fired a great low right-footed shot from the center of the box inside the left post, assisted giving the South Africans a 2-0 lead.##TWITTER_

🚨🌍 | GOAL: YAYA SITHOLE MAKES IT THREE FOR SOUTH AFRICA!

🇪🇷 Eritrea 0-3 South Africa 🇿🇦 pic.twitter.com/fUbW758Qjt
— TheGoalsZone (@TheGoalsZone) September 30, 2026
##Bafana Bafana didn’t waste time in the second half as they looked to ‘kill’ the game as soon as possible. Yaya Sithole struck a powerful right-footed shot from the center of the box into the right side of the goal for 3-0 in the 50th minute, and that was it. If there was any chance for the home team to do something (and it didn’t look good from the first minute), the third goal signalled the end of all hopes. In fact, the fourth one followed in the 63rd minute, when Iqraam Rayners scored after an assist from Oswin Appollis while the fifth one came deep in injury time.2027 AFCON QUALIFIERSRound 2WednesdayEritrea – South Africa 0-5 (0-2)/Mofokeng 19, 45+1, Rayners 63, Sithole 52, Singh 90+4/
