Kenya’s national youth teams have been handed a clear roadmap towards three major continental tournaments after CAF confirmed the host countries for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations competitions. Kenya could feature at the U23, U20 and U17 AFCON tournaments next year, but the country will first have to negotiate the respective qualification campaigns to earn places at the finals.
Egypt will host the 2027 CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations, which will also serve as the African qualifying tournament for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Ghana will stage the U20 AFCON in February and March 2027, while Morocco will host the U17 AFCON in April and May. For Kenya, the qualification journey will begin at the regional level, with the CECAFA region providing the pathway to the U20 and U17 continental finals.
The CECAFA U20 AFCON qualifiers are scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 10, 2026 in Tanzania, giving Kenya’s Rising Stars a chance to secure a place at the 2027 U20 AFCON finals in Ghana.The U17 AFCON CECAFA qualifiers, also in Tanzania, will follow from October 14 to 19, 2026, with Kenya’s Junior Stars needing to finish in a qualifying position to progress to the continental finals in Morocco.
The two regional tournaments will therefore provide Kenya with an important opportunity to test its emerging talent against teams from across East and Central Africa before the CAF finals.The U23 qualification process will provide another route to the continental stage, with Kenya needing to overcome the qualifying rounds to reach the tournament in Egypt. A place at the U23 AFCON would carry an added incentive, as the competition will determine Africa’s representatives at the 2028 Olympic Games.
The U17 pathway will be particularly significant for Kenya following the recent progress of the Junior Starlets, although the men’s Junior Stars will be seeking their own continental breakthrough.CAF’s announcement does not guarantee Kenya participation in any of the three tournaments. The country must first qualify in each age category before securing a place at the finals.

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2027 is scheduled to run from June 19 to July 17, with the senior qualification competition set to begin in September 2026. CAF said the confirmation of host countries and competition dates is part of its efforts to create a more stable and predictable calendar for member associations, players, broadcasters, sponsors and supporters.At club level, the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary rounds will begin in September.
